Difficult drive: Dogs unleashed on polio team

FAISALABAD: Muhammadwala police on Sunday arrested two people for setting dogs on a vaccination team in Chiniot and injuring a polio worker. Chiniot District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Qadir Qamar told The Express Tribune that team supervisor Imran Khan had moved a complaint against Safdar Ali and his brother Ansar Ali, residents of Sabowala village, saying the men had refused to allow polio workers to vaccinate their children. He said when polio workers urged them to allow vaccination of their children against, the men abused them and told them to leave the area at once or face dire consequences. He said as the workers were leaving the house, the men set their dogs on them. The DPO said one of the polio workers, Mukhtar Bibi, was bitten while the others were forced to flee. He said Chenab Nagar police had arrested the brothers on Khan’s complaint. He said a case had been registered against them under Section 289 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Talking to The Express Tribune, Muhammadwala SHO Muhammad Afzal said the men had been released after a judicial magistrate granted them bail.
