Water availability has gone down to alarming levels.

LAHORE: In view of the increasing demand of water and electricity in the country, the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) is executing about 20 projects related to water and hydropower, Wapda chairman Shakil Durrani said while addressing a delegation of the PAF Air War College Karachi.

Durrani said that per capita availability of water in the country has gone down to an alarming level due to an increase in population and decrease in water storage capacity, because of the natural phenomenon of sedimentation in Mangla and Tarbela reservoirs, turning Pakistan into a water-stressed country.

“Ours will be a water-starved country, if water storage capacity is not enhanced by constructing new dams,” he said.
