ISLAMABAD: A senior official on Monday announced that a fresh list has been drawn up of those criminals who will face execution like nine other men hanged so far following the 21st constitutional amendment. The prime minister is closely overseeing progress regarding the implementation of the National Action Plan, Balighur Rehman, the state minister for interior affairs, told the National Assembly in his briefing on the National Action Plan.

He informed the house that the PM is convening meetings for the purpose on a daily basis. It is a declared policy now that there is no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ [terrorist] and we will focus on the problem instead, he said adding that action against banned outfits is also on the cards. All apex committees are working in close cooperation with the respective chief ministers. The minister informed the lower house that seven cases of hate speech were recently filed in Islamabad alone.

Rehman maintained that military courts are being established in the light of new legislation and a joint intelligence and security directorate is being established under National Anti Terrorism Authority (Nacta). He also said that 103 million mobile SIMs are being brought under the biometric system coupled with repatriation of Afghan refugees.  The minister informed the lower house that all boards of the seminaries operating under the umbrella of Itehad Tanzeem-e-Madaris have agreed to get registered whereas a strategy would be devised against those not showing an interest in the registration process.

Sharing the breakup of the Army Public School death toll in Peshawar, he said out of 141 martyred, 123 were students, 14 were teachers including two females. Three of these women were army officials while one was a gardener. Out of 148 injured, 122 are students while eight teachers, two gardeners and 12 others. Seven terrorists were killed in security forces’ operation, he added.

During the session, PPP leader Shazia Marri appreciated the army chief’s gesture to visit APS to give new courage to the students and their parents. PML-N MNA Aasyia Tanoli spoke of the mothers’ fear to send their children to schools.  The house also witnessed exchange of words between PPP and MQM followed by a walkout on alleged extrajudicial killings in Karachi, forcing the speaker to adjourn the proceedings till Tuesday.
