Model town violence: ‘Make the judicial inquiry public’

Our Correspondent January 12, 2015

LAHORE:

Justice Mahmood Maqbool Bajwa of Lahore High Court referred a petition to the LHC chief justice on Monday in which Idara Minhajul Quran’s director has sought directions to the government to make public the judicial inquiry into the Model Town violence.  The judge was told that a similar matter was already pending before a full bench. Justice Bajwa then sent the petition to the chief justice to fix the case before the same bench.  The petitioner said the government did not intend to release the inquiry report. He said at least 14 people had died in the incident and over 100 had been injured. “Yet the government wants to protect those responsible for the incident.” He asked the court to order the provincial government to make the inquiry report, held by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of the LHC, public.
