Citizens’ protest: ‘Police not doing enough to curb crime’

DERA GHAZI KHAN:

Scores of residents of Dera Ghazi Khan on Monday protested against the police for failing to curb crime in the district.

The protesters gathered at Kalma Chowk and chanted slogans against the police. Traders in the area also observed a shutter down strike to protest rising the crime rate in the district.

Afsandyar, one of the protesters, told The Express Tribune, that although police claimed to have launched a crackdown on criminals in the area, the incidence of crimes had not decreased. He said a number of houses and shops had been robbed over the last week and no suspect had been arrested. The protesters burnt tyres and blocked roads for traffic for several hours. The protesters urged the chief minister to take notice of the police indifference.

Later, a police team from the RPO’s office met the protesters and assured them that action would be taken against criminals.
