Seven FC soldiers killed in Loralai ambush

Over 40 militants armed with sophisticated weapons mounted an attack on a check post in the Mekhtar area

QUETTA: At least seven soldiers of Frontier Corps (FC) were gunned down and one injured when a group of militants stormed a check post in the Mekhtar area of the troubled Loralai district in the early hours of Monday.

According FC spokesperson, a group of over 40 militants armed with sophisticated weapons carried out the deadly attack on the check post. “Seven soldiers were martyred in the exchange of fire while more troops reached the site,” the spokesperson said. Several militants were also wounded in the exchange of fire.

Another official said more than 40 armed men besieged the check post. The attackers who were armed with sophisticated weapons had fled after carrying out the deadly attack. A sobedar, hawaldar and five sepoys were among the dead and were transported to FC headquarters hospital along with other bodies and injured.

Security forces have launched a search operation in the area. “The search operation is underway and FC is using helicopter and sniffer dogs to trace the perpetrators,” spokesperson said.

There have been no claims of responsibility for this deadly attack until this report was filed.
