Despite a complete shutter-down across the city, polio workers carried out their duties on the second day of the polio eradication campaign in most of the high-risk areas of the city.
Except for Landhi and Muzaffarabad, health workers who are using the inactivated polio vaccine for the first time, continued their work amid tight security.
"It is a national cause and there is no compromise on it," said Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, who is leading the campaign in the provincial capital. "Our teams are committed and will complete the task."
The deputy programme manager of the provincial extended programme on immunisation, Dr Durre Naz Jamal, claimed that the drive was more effective on the second day as compared to the first day
She also confirmed that the campaign took place with the same spirit in almost all super high-risk areas. "We'll cover the other areas as well," she added.
In some places, polio workers reached late due to the law and order situation in the city, said sources.
