Contempt plea: LHC summons WCLA DG
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday summoned the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) director general on a petition seeking contempt proceedings against the authority for not taking action against illegal construction of multi-storied buildings in the Walled City. A resident of Kashmiri Gate, Asif Ali Mirza, filed the petition, stating construction of high-rise buildings in the Walled City was a violation of rules. He said that the court in its April 11, 2014 order had directed the respondent authorities to take action against illegal constructions. “However, the respondent has not complied with the order so far,” he said. He requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the authority for not stopping the commercial activities and construction of high-rise buildings. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah summoned the respondent on January 22.
