‘Strong-arm tactics’: PBA condemns raid by anti-trust regulator

The Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) on Tuesday roundly condemned ‘the arbitrary action’ taken by Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) against the PBA.

According to a press release, the CCP officials on Tuesday entered the premises of the PBA Secretariat in Karachi and took away all the important original record and documents without assigning any reasonable grounds or by giving any prior information or warning.

“This action of the government is being taken as an attempt to suppress the media and curb freedom of expression by using strong-arm tactics and putting pressure on the parent electronic media body,” the statement said.

The PBA claimed that the CCP’s action is against the principles of natural justice ‘as there was no prior notice to the association by the department”.

The association urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take immediate steps to redress ‘this arbitrary and high-handed action’ of the CCP.
