PIA defeat Railways 3-0 in PPFL

Former national champions are now in the top five

KARACHI: Former champions PIA consolidated their place among the top five of the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) as they defeated Railways 3-0 at the Korangi Baloch Stadium on Monday.

PIA’s Habibur Rehman scored the opening goal in the 25th minute to give PIA a 1-0 at the interval. Muhammad Zeeshan then doubled the lead in the 60th minute, while Habib sealed victory for PIA just a minute later.

With the win, PIA strengthened their position at fourth with 34 points, while Railways remained in 11th with 10 points.

In another match, KPT defeated Baloch FC 5-1 at the KPT Stadium. KPT’s Arsalan Asif scored the opening goal in the third minute of the match while Zafar Majeed made it 2-0 eight minutes later. Arsalan struck the back of the net once more in the 39th minute as KPT led 3-0 at the interval.

Zahid Ahmed and Asif Khan also contributed with a goal apiece in the 67th and 86th minutes respectively, while Baloch FC’s consolation goal came from Muhammad Zahid in the 89th minute.

KPT sit in eighth place with 26 points, whereas Baloch FC played their last match of the season.

Meanwhile, table toppers K-Electric (KE) have an eight-point lead at the top. They defeated former PPFL champions Wapda 1-0 on Sunday.

Rasool scored the winner in the 59th minute after both teams played out a goalless first half.

“Our eyes are on the title,” said KE captain Muhammad Essa. “We’ll be giving our all on the field in the remaining games.”
