QUETTA:

Around 750,000 sub-machine gun bullets have gone missing from Balochistan Constabulary’s store, Quetta police chief Abdul Razzaq Cheema revealed on Friday.

“It is apparently a case of embezzlement that goes back to 2011,” Quetta’s top cop said addressing a news conference at his office.

“Six officials of the constabulary and four arms dealers are being interrogated. Police have also registered a case for the missing bullets,” Cheema told reporters. However, no arrest has so far been made in this regard.

The Quetta police chief said the matter of missing slugs came to fore when a fire broke out in the constabulary’s arsenal in December. The inquiry committee investigating the fire found hundreds of thousands of rounds present on the record but missing from the store.

The committee revealed that the fire was started by elements who wanted to destroy the evidence of their embezzlement, he said. The stolen rounds were worth millions of rupees.
