The Afghan Connection: 12 Afghans arrested in raids

FAISALABAD: Police said on Wednesday that 12 Afghans suspected of having links with banned outfits had been arrested. Officials at the RPO’s office told The Express Tribune that SI Muhammad Qasim from Civil Lines police station had conducted a raid in Tariqabad area following a tip-off and arrested the suspects. Police said Akbar Khan, Najeebullah Khan, Ayub Khan, Kifayat Ullah Khan, Khan Muhammad, Umar Khan, Ismatullah Khan and Yousuf Khan were being held for interrogation. SI Qasim told The Express Tribune that the suspects did not possess a Pakistani passport or an identity card. He said they had been arrested on the suspicion of having links with banned outfits. Kamalia Circle DSP Usman led a raid in Chak 676/17-GB near Shorkot Cantt and arrested Obaidullah, a 24-year-old Afghan. DSP Usman said the raid had been conducted following a tip-off. He said preliminary investigations had revealed that the suspect hailed from Mazar-i-Sharif and had been living in the area for many months. He said Shahid, a resident of the same chak, had also been arrested for sheltering the suspect.
