Adventure sports: ‘Women’ new category at Cholistan jeep rally

Those interested in participating can register for Rs10,000, says TDCP regional manager Ashar Iqbal Malik.

Women will be allowed to take part in the 10th Cholistan jeep rally scheduled to be held in February near Derawar Fort, Ahmedpur East, in Bahawalpur district, said Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) regional manager Ashar Iqbal Malik on Wednesday.


Talking to newsmen, he said the jeep rally would be held between February 13 and February 15.

He said a women racers’ category had been introduced this year.

He said those interested in participating could register for the event for Rs10,000.

He said the fee would be Rs30,000 for those with sponsored vehicles.

He said participation fee for categories A, B, C and D for car racers was Rs25,000.

He said Rs50,000 would be charged for those with sponsored racing vehicles.

Malik said categories S1 and S2 had been formed for stock cars - vehicles that had not been modified from their original factory configuration.

He said the length of the route and check posts would be finalised at a meeting next week. He said TDCP General Manager Tanweer Jabbar and event manager Fayyaz Ahmad would remain in Bahawalpur to oversee arrangements for the jeep rally. Malik said the TDCP was also coordinating with the Health Department, Rangers and Rescue 1122 for the event.
