Demoted: Utility Stores employees protest

MARDAN: In a bid to get their demands accepted, employees of Utility Stores Corporation Mardan demonstrated against the government on Tuesday. On the call of Insaaf Workers Union, the employees converged in Mardan and protested against the government for demoting, instead of promoting, 590 employees working in the corporation throughout the country. The protesters were addressed by Union Chairman Zahoor Khan and President Muhammad Israr on Bank Road. The speakers expressed concern over the demotion of employees. They said the employees have spent years working for the corporation and had been waiting for a promotion for the last eight years. However, instead of raising their ranks, the present government ordered their demotion which cannot be justified. The protesters urged the government to review the decision, saying employees throughout the country would otherwise go on strikes.
