45 injured in major pile-up in Okara

The bus had crashed into the trolley and vehicles following those both sides had then crashed.

As many as 45 people were injured in a vehicles’ pile-up in Okara on Monday.


Rescue 1122 Emergency Officer told The Express Tribune they were informed of a major accident between a trolley and a private bus at around 8 am.

He said when Rescue 1122 teams reached the site, they found that nearly 27 vehicles were involved in the crash due to poor visibility.

He said apparently the bus had crashed into the trolley and vehicles following those both sides had then crashed into those or other vehicles.

He said the injured were taken to Okara district headquarters hospital.

Okara DCO Qasiar Saleem supervised the rescue efforts. The vehicles were moved by Rescue 1122 and National Highway Police.

Okara DHQ Hospital medical superintendent Aslam Khan 45 people were brought to the hospital. He said most of them had been released, however, 11 were in a critical condition.

A National Highway Police spokesman said 11 accidents were reported between 6 and 8 am between Sahiwal and Multan.

Met Department officials said the lowest temperature recorded in south Punjab was 1 degree Celsius in Dera Ghazi Khan.

They said fog would linger till Thursday.  As many as 92 flights have been cancelled this month at Multan, Bahawalpur, DG Khan and Rahim Yar Khan.
