A 27-year-old leader of the Jamaat-i-Ahmadiyya (JA) was killed on Saturday in Gujranwala allegedly for his beliefs, The Express Tribune has learnt.
JA Spokesperson Saleemuddin said Luqman Ahmad Shahzad was on the way to his farm from his residence in Bhiri Shah Rehman when he was gunned down.
Kot Ladha SHO Malik Fayyaz Ahmed said Shahzad had been shot in the head. He said preliminary investigations had pointed towards two motivations for the killing. Ahmed said Shahzad was the only Ahmadi in his family and his entire family had nursed a grudge against him for converting to Ahmadiyyat. He said a cousin of Shahzad had gotten married for love to a low-caste man. SHO Ahmed said the deceased had reservations regarding the match and had refused to attend his cousin’s nuptials despite being invited by the woman’s brother to attend the wedding. He said Shahzad had admonished his cousin when he had invited him to attend the festivities. SHO Ahmed said he believed that the brother and the cousin of the deceased had orchestrated the killing. He said Shahzad’s brother was keen on being named the complainant but he had nominated the mother of the deceased in that capacity. SHO Ahmed said the deceased had no other known enmity with anyone.
Saleemuddin said the situation for Ahmadis in the country was grim as there had been a spate of violence against members of the community. He said people were routinely incited against Ahmadis and pamphlets, brochures and banners spewing venom against the community were commonplace. He said law enforcement agencies should take action against those responsible for the killing.

@Mosawwir Dear kindly read my comment again, i have clearly mentioned that i am not sure since this article gives 2 impression 1. Murder due to religious affiliation 2. Family and then i have given my view that it looks family rift. I am 100% against Amir liaquat and he should be held accountable for the hate speeches he has been doing around but that doesn't mean i held him accountable for anything that's not even proven. Let the investigators investigate and come to a conclusion and then if he's held accountable lets all condemn him BUT till then why spread hatred on the basis of religious affiliation.
Killing of minorities is shameful and a cowardly act. The Rahmat lil Alameen (saw) would have strongly disapproved these dastardly acts.
And the tekedhars of minorities speaks about the rights of Indian Muslims. :) hights of hipocracy
@Yasin: thanks for treating minorities in a positive way.
Had Mumtaz Qadri been executed, things would have been changed!
@Yasin: what an excuse. We always put blame on Hindus, Jews, America and so on for our own doings.
After reading this article and being an Ahmadi I will only say these words "LOVE FOR ALL HATRED FOR NONE"
Dr. Aamer Liaqat must be shackled. Incitement to violence is a crime against humanity and one of the main causes of terrorism and intolerance in Pakistan.
Laws must be in place to stop likes of Aamir Liaqat from spewing hatred from television channels. If relaying of hatred from a handful of channels cannot be controlled how can we control thousands of madressahs.
It is an extremely sad and very disappointing reflection on the credentials of the ET Group to have a hatemonger like Aamir Liaqat on its payroll.
Muslims are peace loving people. Period. All these problems in Pakistan are created by dirty hindus, jews and the west.
@Assam Zafar: So how can you say that it was a family dispute which resulted in his murder? And what about Dr. Amar Liaqat's December 22 programe in which a so called cleric openly spewed hate against Ahmadis? Actually the problem is with our so called Mullahs who propagate hate and incited people to such killing
GEO TV and Aamir Liaquat a few years ago did a similar program in which he and his invited Mullahs poured out Hate Speeches against the peaceful Ahmadiyya Community and then soon after an Ahmadi Muslim Doctor was murdered in cold blood like it happened again now after such speeches. It is about time this Fake Doctor and the ignorant mullahs were brought to books for spreading Hatred towards the minorities.
So much for the action plan and committees for this and that... How about a simple legislation/act/rule against spreading religious hatred... if it is hard enough to implement such simple ethics all over Pakistan - at least enforcing it on TV channels doesn't need another APC! We all need to look at ourselves. It has no direction relationship to Peshawar incident, but when the country is all for action to eliminate bigotry, incitement and religious extremism, can a preacher come on a TV channel and spread religious hatred is beyond comprehension.
50,000+138+1
....and Aamir Liaqat a so called TV religious scholar is still roaming free.
There is no law in this land infested with beasts.
It is clear from the news that there was no religious factor in his killing. He was shot dead due his internal family matters. Please don't relate this issue to Religion.
Before I write anything let me clarify to violent mongers that I endorse the fact that minorities should be completely protected as stated by the constitution. Coming back to main point; what a pathetic reporting, so far the motive of murder is not known but from the title of the article it seems the writer himself assumed that murder was due to religious affiliation. To me it seems like more of family related issue than sectarian but it could be otherwise as I am not 100% sure which gets to point where article/reporter should have reported murder but without the rhetoric of sectarian slogan. Responsible reporting is definitely the need of the hour!!
Hatred against all, without exception must be stemmed, otherwise all steps taken to eradicate terrorism will fail.
The media needs to be regulated and show resposinility in not promoting hate agenda of any type. Ahmedis and other minorities are persecuted and the State has failed to provide any protection to them.
For heavens sake ET !! Give the dead his respect and just report facts pointed out by saleemuddin !!! Everybody is talking about Amir Liaqats role in this but ET has to be clever then the rest and report an insider heeer ranjha story ... just shame on u ET !! post it or not ... just wanted you to know my view
Fine, so he should be killed for it?
The killing of Ahmadi cannot be stopped unless the hate propaganda against Ahmadis is stopped by our ' ulama e karam' . 'Subha Pakistan' aired by Geo TV on 22nd Dec 2014 was run by so called Dr Ammer Liaqat is full of hatred against Ahmadis. Why cannot such program be stopped PEMRA . Yesterday an Ahmadi was killed in Gujranwala . Who is responsible for such killings ??
Now we will see how prime minister react to this killing of Minority member.
