The decision comes against the backdrop of ongoing protests organised by civil society members. The civil society members also registered an FIR against Aziz and gave the police a deadline (Friday) to open an investigation case against the cleric.
Lawyer-turned-activist Jibran Nasir, who spearheaded the protest, remained undeterred, despite receiving a threatening call from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Jamatul Ahrar faction’s spokesman, Ehsanullah Ehsan.
“We have requested the police to conduct a focused investigation…then we will know whether to continue chanting slogans or to celebrate,” he told The Express Tribune.
“This is a story of the will of the common man. This is a common man’s protest against all the rogue clerics who use and manipulate the name of Islam for their own interests,” he said. Nasir, who has been instrumental in galvanising public support through social media, said that the protest had acquainted with like-minded individuals, who now represent the campaign.

That will be a day Pakistani's are able catch this man.
Shame on Pakistan and it's citizen over 140 children and adults killed and country has this cleric sitting in mosque and you people and your government has no grit to catch this villain. You claim to control Taliban and bring country to harmony seems like your leaders , your military has no guts to control or kill a spider. Your whole system seemed like in chaos and your existence as nation are numbered. Your military has no stamina and they are out energy and are out of Gas fighting Taliban. One can understand that. Prime minster seemed to be in the process has forming 15-sub working groups what a joke. A cleric sitting in mosque is still making shots and people can't do any thing if it was in any other country I bet you this man has long gone. He would has been a history. It seems nation as a whole is sleeping and they don't have no feeling what is happening in the country. I bet ya even E,Tribune would print this because they don't want the whole world know the truth about people of Pakistan. The system in the country seems to breaking apart. As a poet said " Na Sambhlo gay tu mit jao gay tumhari dastan bhi na hogi dastano mai. translated it means If you will not watch your self even you won't be in history books.
And why have we not arrested him yet...
At last someone took a brave step against this evil maulana who was portraying a bad image of Islam..
It looks like the police are awaiting orders from the Home Minister to arrest him.....who is waiting for orders from the Prime Minister.......who is unable to make a decision by himself.....so he is thinking of forming a committee....
Why has it taken so long in arresting this misanthropic person? Arrest him, try him in a military court, and then publicly flog him for crimes against humanity. Salams
Their actual home is jail the people like this Maulana are harming the religion when they propagate hatred he must be arrested immediately and put behind bars and his interrogation will lead to the arrest of many more like him.
Secularize and sanitize Pakistan, this is the need of the hour. It is high time that we follow what Ataturk did almost hundred years ago in Turkey. We have enough of this pseudo-religious state taking us to collective hara-kiri.
What goes around, comes around.
Brave and courageous indeed is the EVILwhich pounces on the men of God who spend their life time in the service of the communities who seek salvation.

Jibran we are poud of you, one sincee advice keep your aim high, please dont take a short cut and join PTI.
At least this proves that Lal Masjid case against Musharraf is frivolous.
Pakistan Zindabad!
We need young men like Jibran Nasir who can stood up and called a spade is a spade and take practical steps. If we have even 0.01% people who can stand up and tried to eradicate wrong doing in the society then we will be living very peacefully.
@pakdefence:
This person you called a professor is studied upto grade 2 only.
This man is bad.......and those who sit in our assembly and support him are worse.
No more fiddling with any Terrorist. Enough is Enough!!
Great news!! Every bit counts. Every voice matters. We should all raise voices and speak up. One day this darkness will die.
This brave man has more courage than the lions. He has taken the risk, filed the complaint and got the arrest warrant from the court. The government should have arrested maulana Abdul Aziz immediately. The government is afraid to take the proper action and has not arrested Abdul Aziz yet.
Very Unfortunate, Musharraf was forced to do politics by chuhadrys / other wise Pakistan would have been Pakistan.
Whats the charge?
Time to arrest these apostate protester.
Thank you Nasir Jibran for keeping up the pressure, Now the PML N has to show the backbone to arrest this man and show the proof that they are really serious in treating the cancerous growth in Pakistan and the blood of the 150 or so innocent in Peshawar did not go to waste.
Send him to the military courts, they may have some more charges pending for him re the earlier episode.
Ask the parents of people living in the masjid to be taken back to their homes and rehabilitated to the civil society now.
I hope they have a case on him and they shut this menace of a mosque down. It should be reopened under a new progressive management that can set up a cultural centre too for all non Muslims to come visit.
Get this ignorant lot out of the capital please.
It means operation of Lal Masjid was justified. Needs thorough investigation and his wife is equally involved. Salam Justice.
Musharraf is a real man of vision, he attempted to get out of this evil in veil
There's a big difference between issuing an arrest warrant and actually arresting someone. I will wait for the day when we see him behind bars.
Try him in the Military Court!
Interrogate him and he will lead you to actual culprits behind Peshawar and all other attacks!
good job sir, he need to more. just execute him in public.......
Bravo, feeling change ...!
Weldone!
What a mess !!
small victory in a long long battle neverthless good start. congratulations to all the sane people
Well done sir! I hope the public acts against other fire brand clerics fomenting violence.

You also need to take him to court as well through civil suit...
