KARACHI: Law enforcers on Monday claimed to have killed 13 suspected militants during a raid in Sohrab Goth area of Karachi.

Police officials claimed that the suspected militants killed belonged to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and al Qaeda, and were plotting a major terror attack.

Officials said that they had raided a suspected hideout in Deluxe Town area of Sohrab Goth following a tip-off.

A contingent of police officers, headed by District Malir police chief SSP Rao Anwar, were cordoning off the suspected location when they came under attack from the militants.

“We had a tip-off that the militants belonging to the Khan Zaman Mehsud group of TTP had gathered there to plot a major terror attack,” explained SSP Anwar while talking to The Express Tribune.

“Before we could cordon off their hideout and arrest them, the militants started attacking us but fortunately, all of us (policemen) remained unhurt.”

He added that police faced stiff resistance from the militants who hurled grenades at the police. So intense was the firing, the police was forced seek back up. Following an exchange of fire which lasted nearly two hours, the police prevailed and claimed to have killed 13 militants.

The militants killed have yet to be identified, hence their bodies were shifted to an Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth after the completion of medico-legal formalities at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The police claimed that the militants killed during the encounter belonged to different banned outfits.

“The militants killed were belonged to TTP’s Khan Zaman Mehsud group and al Qaeda too,” SSP Anwar claimed.

Police officials suspected that there might be possible suicide bombers among the militants killed. They further claimed to have recovered huge cache of explosives, bombs, hand grenades, weapons and police uniforms during the raid.

As these guys want to die anyway, the Police are only helping meet their desired goal.

WE don't whether they are really killing terrorists or suspects in staged encounters. There is a video of yesterdays killings of 5 suspects in Karachi on the net (LiveLeak) and it is clearly obvious that weapons have been placed next to the bodies after their death.
