Sensitive Areas: Anti-polio campaign resumed

KARACHI: The city administration’s anti-polio campaign was restarted on Saturday in 11 sensitive union councils of Karachi. It will be carried out for five days and 213,710 children will be administered oral polio vaccines. This was decided during a meeting chaired by commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui. Representatives of the World Health Organisation, health executive district officer Zafar Ejaz and SSP Ejaz Hashmi were also present. The meeting was briefed about the on-going campaign. Members were informed that special steps were taken for the security of the workers running the door-to-door campaign. As many as 1,000 policemen were assigned to provide security. The meeting was told that the number of people who had refused to get their children vaccinated in the previous campaign had drastically gone down along with the number of absentees.
