KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) returned on Friday the Sindh government’s notification proposing amendments to the prison rules to reduce the period between receiving black warrants for death row prisoners and their execution from 15 days to five.

A judicial official told The Express Tribune that SHC Registrar Muhammad Faheem Siddiqui returned the notification after pointing out some mistakes in the language of the document, and directed the officials to issue a corrected notification. The provincial government had requested the SHC to amend its rules related to the issuance and implementation of black warrants to ensure early execution of those given capital punishment in the cases of terrorism.

The source said that the prison authorities made amendments to the existing prison rules and produced its notification to the Sindh High Court (SHC) for its perusal.
