KARACHI: Left-arm pacer Ziaul Haq bowled Pakistan A to a resounding 214-run victory and a 3-0 series lead over Kenya in their third one-day match yesterday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Several changes were made in the line-up, with star players Sharjeel Khan, Muhammad Talha, Imran Khan and Raza Hasan rested while the youngsters were given a chance to play — an opportunity which will come for them in the last two matches as well.

Kenya won the toss and asked Pakistan A to bat first, but the decision eventually went against them as the hosts managed to score 265-5 in their 45 overs.

Babar Azam top-scored with 97 runs off 117 balls as he struck 12 boundaries and a six, and skipper Fawad Alam remained unbeaten on a 61-ball 84, hitting 10 strikes to the fence in the process.

In reply, Kenya were sent packing in almost no time as their first five wickets – four picked up by Zia and one by Shehzad Alam – fell for just seven runs in five overs.

Zia then took his fifth wicket in the seventh over when he removed Nehemiah Odhiambo (nine) and Kenya were reduced to 13-6.

Skipper Ngoche (11) and Olouch (18) were the only batsmen to reach double figures as the visitors were bowled out for 51 in just 22 overs. Apart from Zia and Alam, leg-spinner Shahzaib Ahmed claimed three wickets, while all-rounder Zafar Gohar bagged one scalp.

Tour of Kenya: Saud stars in Pakistan U19’s 5-0 win

Pakistan’s U19 team made its mark after thrashing Kenya U19 5-0 in Nairobi under the captaincy of Saud Shakil in a recently-concluded tour.

Karachi-based Saud top-scored in the 50-over series with 343 runs, making two centuries and a half-century at an impressive average of 85.75. Zeeshan Malik was the other notable scorer, managing 281 in four matches at a stellar average of 93.67 with the help of a century and a fifty.

Meanwhile, Awais Iqbal was the pick of the bowlers in the series, claiming 13 wickets with best figures of 5-37.

“This experience will be crucial for the players who will represent Pakistan at the U19 World Cup,” Saud told The Express Tribune. “The players gained some playing experience on quicker pitches than Pakistan’s.”
