A mixed bag of designer collections

Syed Rizwanullah and Zaheer Abbas impress at a fundraiser for an education initiative.

KARACHI: The non-governmental organisation, Concern for Children Trust, held a fashion show in Karachi last weekend to fundraise for an education initiative in Machar Colony.

Designers who participated at the recently concluded PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week showed repeat collections, while others used the opportunity to showcase their Autumn/Winter 2010 collections.

Zaheer Abbas, who first showed at Fashion Pakistan Week this April, showed a ‘Metro Chic’ collection and used rust, cream shades of grey and sky blue on belted tunics with hoodies. The collection was accessorised with leather pants, funky red tights and high boots. Abbas used the key layering and fringing trends in his collection.

The best collection of the night was by Syed Rizwanullah, who moved on from his black-and-white ‘Depression Chic’ collection shown this April to a colourful riot called ‘Confessions’. A range of ensembles with patchwork and crochet in rainbow hues dominated the collection, and looks primed to be a must-buy this season.

Teejays and the House of Kamiar Rokni showed their fashion week collections, while Nida Azwer focused on bridal wear and bright colours with embellishments in gold and silver.

Two major labels, Munib Nawaz and Amir Adnan, had nothing new to offer. The Amir Adnan collection was called ‘Urban Chic’ and designed by Sarah Anis. While both labels primarily played with black, they offered nothing chic to add to the roster of collections shown in Karachi recently.

Nida Azwer also auctioned one of her outfits for charity, while Tissot auctioned two watches for the cause and stylists such as Saba Ansari worked for free, given that the event was a fundraiser. The models of the evening were Yousuf and Lux Style Award 2010 winner Fayeza Ansari.
