Family members and neighbours of Arslan Qadir, man of the match in the hockey team’s victory against India on Saturday in the Champions Trophy, have congratulated the young sportsman for becoming the player of the match. Qadir hails form Dera Ghazi Khan city and belongs to a middle-class family. His elder brother Faisal has also been part of the national hockey squad. Born in 1994, he was selected for the national team in 2008.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Arslan’s father, Abdul Qadir and his brother, Nauman expressed joy at his performance in the Champions Trophy, especially in the Pakistan-India match.
“I am truly happy today. My son’s two goals have made me proud,” Qadir said.
“We have avenged our defeat at the hands of India in the Asian Games,” Faisal said. Relatives and neighbours also gathered at the family’s house and prayed for the national team ahead of their match against Germany.
