MULTAN:

“The government realises that the talks offered to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) will fail to pressure us into calling off the strike in Lahore,” said PTI Punjab president Ejaz Chaudhary on his arrival in Multan on Sunday.

He told newsmen at the airport that the PTI was prepared to face opposition from all political parties of Pakistan.

“We know what we are up against,” he said. “We are fighting a crumbling political system whose leaders will retaliate with full force to protect their interests.”

“The PTI is struggling for true independence for Pakistanis,” he added.

Chaudhary said the PTI would not yield “an inch” from its position on an independent probe into the 2013 polls.

“The PTI has instilled confidence in the people of the country,” he said. “Pakistanis had lost faith in the parliament and widespread rigging the polls has further disillusioned them.”

He said no body could deny PTI’s role in creating a culture of participation in the political processes.

He said the prime minister had not visited the parliament in 14 months before August but participated in a joint session against PTI’s sit-in in the capital.

“The prime minister called the session to ensure all his cronies were still by his side,” he said. “This simply shows that when threatened, these leaders will band together to protect their interests.”

He said the government’s arrogance had only served to strengthen the PTI.

“The government’s attitude has reaffirmed our faith in our cause,” he said.

He said the PTI would end nepotism and dynastic politics in the country.

Chaudhary urged the people of Multan to participate in the nationwide call for strike called by Imran Khan.

“I want to remind people that we are fighting for them,” he said. “We are very close to our destination and we need a final push to bring down our foes.”

He said no movement could be successful without the support of the masses.

“If PTI’s supporters had disapproved of decisions of the leadership, their concerns would have been taken on board,” he said. “Luckily, no one has expressed doubt about their faith in Imran Khan and his wisdom.” He urged Lahoris to shut down the city on December 15 (today).
