As the PTI managed to bring the city to a grinding halt on Friday, several residents faced problems reaching the airport.
A reader, requesting anonymity, narrated his experience: “[Our] flight [was] scheduled for 12:15pm to Dubai, so we left bright and early (around 8:45am) anticipating the road situation,” he wrote to The Express Tribune.
“TV channels stated that ambulances and people headed to the airport would be allowed through. However, we were forced to turn around from Qayyumabad along with the rest of the traffic.”
“I doubt many passengers got through [as there is] not exactly a sign on their cars that they are headed to the airport. Airlines too show no cooperation in these situations,” he said.
“It’s bad enough if a mother misses her flight to see her son and grandson returning from university for winter break, we have to pay cancelations charges to the airline. The only immediate ‘change’ I see happening is the flight change for mum.”
