Police have taken into custody five men suspected to be involved in the killing of PTI activist Haq Nawaz in Faisalabad on December 8 during the shutter-down riots on Novelty Bridge.
The suspects were arrested from various parts of the city including Sir Syed Town, Madini Chowk of Samanabad, Totiwala Chowk – localities which fall under the constituency of former Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah Khan.
All the arrested persons were shifted to an unidentified location for interrogation. But the hunt is still on for the man seen in a TV grab firing gunshots, whose identity has been made controversial after Rana Sanaullah presented a man and called him the same person. But PTI contested this claim, saying the actual person had been made to disappear.
The Punjab government has announced a Rs5 million reward for his identification.
Police are reluctant to disclose the name of the suspected persons. However, City Police Officer (CPO) Faisalabad Dr Sohail Habib Tajik while taking to The Express Tribune has confirmed the arrests.
“All those taken into custody were identified from various footages of the incident. But the main person who was seen firing has yet to be identified and arrested,” the CPO said.
