7 illegal immigrants sentenced to 4 years

KARACHI: Additional District and Sessions Judge Malir Mohammad Shahid Shafique sentenced seven illegal immigrants for four years each.

The accused were identified as Muhammad Shajahan, Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Akhtar, Muhammad Ilyas, Muhammad Nizamuddin, Abdul Hashim and Muhammad Noor. The court also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on each of them. After their terms are finished they must leave the country, the court added.

According to the prosecution, FIA Inspector Ali Hassan Zardari arrested the men on September 10 and 28, 2009 from Karachi airport. The suspects had allegedly landed in Pakistan from Bangladesh using fake passports.

The FIA had registered a forgery case under the Foreign Act against the suspects and sent them to jail.

Separately, Additional District and Sessions Judge West Gulshan Ara Chandio adjourned the hearing of the NHA Chairman and other Shershah bridge collapse cases until December.
