Court grants remand of LeJ militants

Six alleged Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) militants remanded into judicial and physical custody.

KARACHI: Six alleged Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) militants were remanded into judicial and physical custody by three judicial magistrates of Karachi West and East districts on Monday.

The accused men, Qari Zafar Dawood, Ikramul Haq, Naushad, Shahid, Nafees and Abdullah, were arrested by the Pirabad police on November 11. Police had also claimed they had seized a large quantity of explosives, Kalashnikovs, pistols and ammunition from the suspects’ possession.

The accused were produced before Judicial Magistrate West Muhammad Afzal Roshan, who extended the physical remand of Qari Zafar Dawood and Naushad till November 24. He ordered judicial custody of the remaining four men.

The suspects are believed to be involved in the murders of Dr Sibtain in Kharadar and Dr Irfan in the al Falah area.

Ikram and Naushad were then produced before Judicial Magistrate West Muhammad Arif Rajput on harges of possessing explosives, arms and ammunition. The court granted physical remand till November 24.
