ISLAMABAD: The Special Court — constituted to try former president Pervez Musharraf — has directed the federal government to submit report, on January 7, 2015, regarding the implementation of its November 21 verdict in the high treason case.

In its November 21 order, the court had asked the federal government to include the names of former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, former federal minister Zahid Hamid and former chief justice Abdul Hameed Dogar in the charge-sheet.

The two-member bench of the special court, comprising Justice Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali, resumed the hearing of high treason case on Tuesday.

Head of prosecution team Akram Sheikh apprised the court that the federal government on December 4 had moved an application, seeking reasonable time to file amended complaint in view of the court’s November 21 verdict.

Upon this, Justice Tahira Safdar asked “whether one week will be enough to comply with the court’s order?” Sheikh, however, stated he is not part of the federal government and is just the prosecutor in this case. “It’s the job of government to implement or challenge the court’s verdict.”

He, however, said deliberation is going on over the special court’s order. In the meantime, the court granted time to the federal government with direction to submit report on the implementation of its verdict on January 7. The hearing of case was adjourned until January 8.

It is pertinent to mention here that Zahid Hamid has already challenged the special court’s verdict in Islamabad High Court. The high court has sought legal opinion of Attorney General for Pakistan over the maintainability of this case. It should also be noted that IHC in its April 16 order had refused to entertain Musharraf plea against the special court’s interim order.
