Music maestro: Artists remember Ghulam Haider

ISLAMABAD: A mesmerising evening of classical music enthralled residents of the capital who had come to listen to renowned artists pay tribute to legendary musician Ghulam Haider at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts on Monday evening. The event, organised by Mausiqar-e-Azam Memorial Society and PNCA, had three renowned artists — Asma Latta, Master Inyat Hussain and Nirmal Shah — from Lahore. The evening started with a presentation of Haider’s “Pegham Saba Lai Hai Darbar-e-Nabi Se” by Asma Latta, a playback singer. This was followed by “Chanda ki nagri” by singer Nirmal Shah. The disciple of master Inayat Hussain, ghazal singer Ali Raza Khan received great applause for performing several popular songs. Humaira Channa performed “Mujh se pehli si muhabat”. Haider was a noted composer and is known for discovering Lata Mangeshkar and Noor Jehan.
