ABBOTABAD: Two teenagers committed suicide in different parts of Hazara on Monday, said the police.

The first case was reported from the limits of Sherwan union council. Police quoted Muhammad Miskeen of Todoo Maira Jalala village saying his daughter Irum Bibi, 18, was using her cell phone when her mother reprimanded her for neglecting her studies and household chores. Irum Bibi then went to her bedroom and shot herself with a 30-bore pistol. She was taken to a hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.

In Haripur, 18-year-old Ziaur Rehman, a third year student at Government College for Boys Ghazi, killed himself over the fear of failing an exam. During his exam on Monday, Rehman could not attempt most questions.

Fearing the wrath of his parents, he locked himself in a room and shot himself on the temple, family members reported to the police. Police also recovered a letter from his pocket in which he had mentioned the reason for committing suicide, saying he thought it better to kill himself than to annoy his parents.

Police officials said this was the eighth case of suicide in Hazara since last month.
