MULTAN: A prisoner attempted suicide at Multan Central Jail on Saturday. Police said Ghulam Muhammad tied a bed sheet to the ceiling and hung himself.  They said he was rescued by other prisoners and taken to Nishtar Medical Hospital. Police said an FIR was registered against him at Shah Shams police station for attempting suicide.  Muhammad had climbed the water tank of the prison on November 7 and had threatened to jump off. Three FIRs had been registered against him after the incident for attempting suicide, intervening in government matters and attacking on government officials. They said Muhammad had wanted a private meeting with his girlfriend but was not allowed. They said IG Prisons Mian Farooq Nazeer had ordered religious and spiritual mentoring for the prisoner and a psychiatrist from Nishtar Hospital also met him. Doctors at the hospital said his condition was stable. They said he would be guarded by an official of the Prisons Department at the hospital.
