Faheem outwits Hamza in snooker opener

Downs former national champion 4-2 in national ranking championship

KARACHI: Muhammad Faheem stunned youngster Hamza Akbar with a 4-2 win on the opening day of the Langnese Ranking Snooker Championship being played at the NBP Sports Complex in Karachi.

Faheem won with a scoreline of 5-75, 131-4(94), 47-41, 70-44, 37-46 and 53-25.

Meanwhile, former IBSF world champion Muhammad Asif beat Babar Masih 4-2 with scores of 60- 20, 1-110(54), 56-48, 62-76(71), 77-55(51) and 65-24 and Muhammad Asif Toba pipped Muhammad Imran 4-3.

Muhammad Sajjad, who finished as the runner-up at the 2014 IBSF World Championship, was given a wakeup call by Abdul Raheem as he managed to scrape through with a 4-3 win.

Sajjad started brilliantly with a 100-point break in the first frame, but then lost three frames on the trot. However, the seasoned campaigner hit back to win with scores of 100-24(100), 55-59, 18-79(57), 25-77, 85-23, 65-49 and 79-01.

Shahid Aftab beat Zulfiqar Qadir 4-1 and Shaharam Changezi won in similar style against Muhammad Ishtiaq.
