Scores of residents of D-Type Colony on Friday staged a protest demonstration against police for failing to recover a boy abducted on August 21.
The protesters, holding banners and placards, marched to Zila Council Chowk where they staged a sit-in in front of the district government secretariat. Talking to newsmen, Iftikhar Ali said his four-year-old son Muhammad Sheharyar was abducted from near his house in Asim Town on the evening of August 21.
“We reported the abduction to the police and an FIR was registered under Section 363 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC),” he said.
He said he had had heard from his son or police in three months. “Whenever I went to the police station and asked for an update on the investigation, policemen told me that they were working on it,” he said. He said he was also encouraged to pay bribes to expedite the investigation.
The protesters chanted slogans against police and demanded immediate recovery of the boy. They also blocked University Road for traffic due to which long queues of vehicles were seen in front of the district courts.
City Police Officer (CPO) Sohail Habib Tajik visited the scene and met with the protesters. District and Sessions Judge Safdar Saleem Shahid met the protestors and assured them that the boy would be recovered soon.
The protesters, on this assurance, called off their protest and dispersed peacefully.
