KARACHI: The provincial government appointed Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Mohammad Ali Malkani as its newest minister, making the Sindh Cabinet swell to 17.

Sources privy to the development told The Express Tribune that PPP MPAs Nadir Ali Magsi and Hasnain Mirza were also candidates for ministerial positions but their names were dropped from the list at the last minute.

“PPP MPA Nawab Sardar Khan Chandio, who is a political rival of Magsi, threatened to leave the party which is why the government dropped Magsi’s name,” claimed sources.

The government will induct more ministers in the Cabinet but this can only be done after resolving differences within the party ranks, said officials privy to the development.

The decision to expand the cabinet was made following the departure of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement from the government some time ago.
