PTI to stage 24 sit-ins across Karachi on December 12

Imran Khan's party claims all roads will be blocked across Karachi on given date

KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will stage 24 sit-ins across Karachi as part of its planned country-wide shutdown on December 12, the party's leader Subhan Ali Sahil announced on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, Sahil said that they would block all major roads of the city and protest peacefully to demand the government to hold transparent investigations against alleged rigging in the 2013 general elections.

“We will make the 12 December protest successful with the support of our workers, voters and supporters. A large number of women would also participate in the sit-ins,” he said.

The PTI leader asked the government to cooperate with them and warned that they would not hesitate to resist any action taken against them.

Sahil appealed to the people of Karachi, including transporters, traders, lawyers and students, to participate in the protest.

PTI lawmakers met for deliberation on December 1 and discussed 'Plan C' after PTI chief Imran Khan's longstanding demand for an independent audit of the May 2013 elections was not accepted.

“I will go to Lahore and shut it down on December 4. On December 8, I will shut down Faisalabad, on December 12, I will shut down Karachi, and on December 16, I will bring the entire country to a standstill if an inquiry is not initiated into the electoral fraud,” Imran told hundreds of thousands of his supporters on the Constitution Avenue in Islamabad on November 30.
