Two young sisters were shot dead Monday evening by their own brother over a property dispute in Jagatabad Mohallah near Dadu police station.
One of the victims, identified as Nadia, wife of Abdul Raheem Jamali, and the mother of three children, had run away from her home three weeks ago. Following a search her parents and other relatives discovered that she was in Shikarpur. They informed the tribal elders, who used their influence and managed to bring the woman back home.
Hours before her murder, Nadia made an appearance before the district and sessions court in Dadu. Upon hearing her version of events, the judge referred the case to the first additional sessions judge. According to the police, Nadia claimed that her husband tortured her because Abdul Qadir Jamali was not ready to give her share in the property.
Fed up with the constant harassment, she ran away. After recording her statement and taking surety, the judge handed her over to her brother who took her home.
Reports said that evening after heated arguments with his sister, Abdul Qadir took out his gun and aimed it at Nadia. Her younger sister Arbab Khatoon rushed to her rescue but he shot her in the chest along with Nadia and fled.
Arbab Khatoon was seriously injured and was taken to Shaheed Benazir Abad hospital, when she succumbed to her injuries near Moro.
Some journalists in the area claimed that Nadia had eloped with someone and was brought back home through the mediation of elders. But the head constable of Dadu said that in her statement before the judge she spoke only about being tortured and made no mention of an elopement with any other person.
