Coming summers: PM wants strategy for load management

PM also directed to increase the quantum of coal and gas as part of the fuel mix policy of energy production

ISLAMABAD:


Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCE) to devise and present a comprehensive load management strategy for the coming summers, said a press statement issued to the media on Monday.


Chairing the CCE’s 3rd meeting at the PM House, the PM also directed to increase the quantum of coal and gas as part of the fuel mix policy of energy production – in order to make the prices of electricity more affordable.


According to the press release, the prime minister was briefed on the progress on energy policy that aims to achieve ‘more availability and better affordability’ of electricity in Pakistan.


The prime minister was also told that about 1,500 megawatts of electricity will be added to national grid by June, 2015.


The meeting was attended by Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and other senior officials.
