Police said on Monday they had foiled a kidnapping bid and killed a suspect in a shootout.
A police spokesman said farmer Shafiq Ahmad, a resident of Hasuwala village, was driving a tractor trolley when four unidentified men stopped him near Neel Garh and tried to take him with them at gunpoint.
The spokesman said Ahmad started screaming for help. He said people of the area informed the police who set up a picket to arrest them. Police said when the men neared the picket, they started shooting at the police.
He said police returned fire, killing one of them. His accomplices fled, leaving Ahmad. Police took the body to a hospital for post mortem examination.
