PAT workers’ arrest: Petition seeking bail cancellation rejected

LAHORE:

A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Monday dismissed the government’s plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to several workers of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek in a case lodged on the Model Town violence.

The prosecutor said the PAT workers had taken the law in their hands, opened fire at policemen and tortured them. “The workers also snatched weapons from policemen. However, the trial court had released them on bail,” he said. The prosecutor requested the court to cancel their bails as they were involved in heinous offences.

The PAT workers’ counsel said that they had been wrongly implicated in the case. After hearing the arguments, the LHC bench led by Justice Abdul Sami Khan, dismissed the government’s petition.
