The 60-kilometre-long, 4-lane fenced expressway will cost Rs33 billion.
The Hazara Motorway will reduce the drive time from Islamabad to Havelian by 30 minutes, additionally providing a road to the Havelian Dry Port project.
The project anticipates hundreds of thousands of employment opportunities, possibilities of new business ideas, and a socio-economic uplift of the whole region.
Correction: An earlier version of this story had incorrectly mentioned that the travel time will be cut to 30 minutes. The travel time will be cut by 30 minutes.

I wish govt would have invested these 33 bn to improve rail and air transport including freight railway.
Jibran type people are sick minded. They have no idea about importance of connectivity (road connectivity, social connectivity, internet connectivity) in development of a country. Even if an individual gets benefit but millions other enjoy the facility then whats wrong.
Such positive projects should always be appreciated and this is going to be a big relief for people travelling on the roads that are too far inadequate and dangerous where so many accidents take place each day
Those thinking it is another cheap tactic should travel from Islamabad to Abbottabad once and they will shut up. The travelling conditions are deplorable to say the least. The project was originally approved in either in the later part of Musharaf era or the start of PPP government. More than once the funds were diverted by the federal government back then.
I voted for PTI but i am not sure what they have done for the province outside Peshawer. Imran did make promises of billions of rupees worth of projects a few days before the PP23 elections recently. Obviously it wasn't pre-poll rigging coz the great khan did it. I guess we should have more and more by-elections so that something may get done in Hazara by the provincial government too.
@Mehran Soomro , Please change your centuries old chief minister and the governor. They both are their only for the interest of their chiefs and not for their people if Sindh.
It is 'reduce by 30 minutes' not 'reduce to 30 minutes'. The travel time is about 2:20 now, it will become 1:50.
@Tahir Iqbal: How????
I have a question to to writer of this news. Did u ever visit Havelian???? how it will reduce journey to only 30 minutes??? when from isd it is more than 100 km far.
@Mehran Soomro: That is because the Sindh Govt does not do much about Sindh. Work hard and envy not. (A Sindhi.)
No Motorway for Sindh, No mega projects for Sindh. Federal Govt of PMLN failed to offer any thing to Sindh. Shame
@hazaraywaal: @Yasser: I have been living in Hazara too but when people are accusing the PM Government of graft and corruption don’t you think an expressway is sufficient for the time being and later it can be expanded into a motorway. Besides, resources are limited and there are competing demands. If the Govt. builds highways/roads it is condemned for corruption, if it builds them people still want grandeur and bombastic projects. If the Govt. does not take up development projects it is condemned for not working for the progress of the country. So the Government is caught in a damned if you do, damned if you don't gridlock.
thats an old project setup way before his government started
@Yasser: Don't you realize that that Metro Bus is more important than Motorways? All world development agencies support efficient mass public transit like was done in other countries. Rich people in Pakistan don't understand how important the middle and working class is in maintaining the economy. They benefit from Metro Bus but people in Pakistan think it's a waste since the rich people won't use it. I am sure the UN knows better than the rich people in Pakistan why Metro Bus is needed in developing countries. I think that Nawaz Sharif should make more metro bus in all cities first and then build more motorways.
@Yasser: Do you know of any road in Pakistan which makes 'profit' for the government? Or for that matter any school, medical / engineering college, hospital...........
@Ranjha: Have you traveled on N-35 rather have you driven on N-35?
I believe projects like this are true socioeconomic game changer, the Burhan - Havelian expressway is a very vital project, the need of the hour and unlike those non-productive Metro Projects who were only initiated to get popular vote bank in Lahore and Rawalpindi / Islamabad. The Metro Lahore project has started running in losses. I wish the current project would have been a motorway project as promised by Nawaz Sharif when he changed its status from 4 lane expressway to 6 lane motorway after coming to power but the project is reverted back to a 4 lane expressway as initiated by the PPP government but contrary to its name which was not reverted to expressway.
brothers motorway and expressway are two different types of roads. On sign boards and in ads main heading is written Hazara motorway along with expressway.so either it should be expressway or motorway.as mentioned in details it is E-35 so it is expressway not a motorway(4 lane). Our people are fools. They should have planned 6 lane for the future of pakistan and for the proper economic activity.thanks
Great job of pmln
@Ranjha: If you call improving the country by building roads and creating jobs "vote buying" then I sure hope that Nawaz Sharif does a lot more "vote buying". I hope he buys more votes by building rail links, making Gwader Port operational, bringing investment, completing the Lahore-Karachi Motorway and creating economic zones. This is a great way to "buy votes" by improving the country!
As usual Nawaz is busy building things that looks very shiny on the top to get vote banks as well as pave more ways to keep engaging in corruption for example awarding contracts to its favorites, substantially inflating the cost of these mega projects. But underneath it smells foul, the infrastructure is destroyed. there is mass poverty and illiteracy You will not find a single nation in the world that became progressive by first building motorway and metro mega projects. Nawaz got it backward. First start from the root.
This motorway will provide more ease for the tourists going to Kaghan Valley (Naran) also. Kaghan Valley is most attractive and beautiful valley of Pakistan. Well-done my dear PM.
Any party who is able to build a road from Hasanabdal to Abbottabad will definitely win the next election.
For the uninitiated, its probably the most important, most congested and always jammed part of the KKH. KKH btw, is a single lane road from Hasan-abdal to China. Go figure.
Here you go another few billions into the pockets of Sharifs by the Chinese that later we need to pay off with high interests throughout our life.
@Ranjha @Jibran Let me tell you that I am not a member of PMLN but it is my request to PTI supporters that kindly keep in Mind that Pakistan do exist outside of Clifton, Defense, Model town, Askari, Bharia town and other lavish housing schemes as well. PTI supporters sometimes criticize in a very very naive manner. Do you know the current travel time in this region is more than one and half hours and now it will be reduced to around 30 minutes. Everyday more than 100,000 People travel to and from this region. This is a huge relief for the local people. Secondly this motorway will connect the Pak-China corridor and this means that Pakistan and China will be able to import and export in a much efficient manner and this will create many Job opportunities in this region.
@Jibran: If we work by your senses, then all the roads around bani gala was made to profit khan sb. house at the hill top. The problem is you have become too myopic to see rationality in any thing.
Finally! This was very much needed!
Pakistan Zindabad!
Only for the leisure and pleasure of Captain Safdar. To jack up the prices of his real estate, like what he did for Raiwind.
More shameful vote buying at our tax expenses!
Even more heart burning for PTI
