Faisalabad police on Wednesday assigned five patrolling vehicles to cover Khurarianwala Industrial Area under its Safe City Project as residents protested against the increasing crimes in the city.
Talking to The Express Tribune City Police Officer (CPO) Sohail Habib Tajik said the vehicles were equipped with necessary gadgets and weapons.
The CPO said they could respond simultaneously to five calls from Khurarianwala, Sheikhupura Road and Sargodha Road.
“If the project is successful, similar vehicles will be deployed in other parts of the city,” the CPO added.
Meanwhile, over three dozen residents in Sandal Bar area staged a protest demonstration against police for failing to curb crime.
They gathered at Aminpur Bangla Road and blocked it for traffic.
Talking to newsmen, Noorul Hasan Shah, one of the protesters, said criminals were roaming freely and had no fear of consequences.
He said dozens of residents had complained at various police stations and to senior officials about the increasing crime in the city but no action had been taken so far to improve.
He said some robbers had looted a Jamaat-i-Islami caravan on Tuesday night and deprived dozens of passers by of cash, mobile phones and other valuable in the same area. He said citizens were frustrated and angry at the apathy of the police and their apparent indifference to the violence in their localties.
On receipt of information, a police team headed by Sandal Bar station house officer reached the scene and pacified the protesters by assuring them that their complaints would be taken to top officials.
On this assurance, the protester dispersed from the scene.
Sandal Bar SHO Abdul Majeed told The Express Tribune that demanding safety and security was a right of the people.
“We have evolved a strategy to address increasing street crimes in the area and its results would be seen very soon,” he said.
