On the road: Motorway police foil kidnap attempt

Press Release November 25, 2014

LAHORE: The National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) foiled an attempt to kidnap a man and killed one of the kidnappers. The NH&MP said in a statement they had received a phone call that Muhammad Nadeem, Muhammed Bilal, Shahzaib and Shamshad Begum had kidnapped 25-year-old Farhan Saeed and driven away in a car. Patrolling officers Khurram Shad and Amjad Mumtaz had signalled them to stop at Salam Interchange but one of the kidnappers resorted to firing. The officers retaliated, injuring Nadeem. He later succumbed to the injuries at a hospital. The police arrested Bilal, Shahzaib and Shamshad. The woman was also carrying a one-year-old girl, the police said. NH&MP Inspector General Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema has announced a Rs50,000 reward for the police officers.
