Trades and skills: 16 free vocational courses next year

TEVTA chairperson says 28,500 students were expected to enroll in the courses.

LAHORE: Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said on Tuesday that the authority was set to begin offering 16 free courses of various durations at institutes across the Punjab.

He said the courses would start in January 2015. Sheikh said the courses had been introduced after taking all stakeholders in confidence. He said 28,500 students were expected to enroll on the courses. Sheikh said they would be given a Rs1,000 travel allowance. He said courses would be offered on mobile phone repair, home appliances, fashion design, web design, housekeeping, cooking, industrial design and textile design among other subjects. Sheikh said the Tevta would procure the equipment needed for these courses. He said the authority’s faculty would be given pay reviews and assigned additional duties.

Sheikh was addressing a conference of zonal and district managers at the Tevta Secretariat. Chief Operating Officer Muhammad Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, General Managers Hamid Ghani Anjum, Abdul Qayyum, Azhar Iqbal Shad and Akhtar Abbas Bharwana were also present on the occasion.
