KARACHI: The Anti-Terrorism Court-VII on Tuesday reserved its judgment in a kidnapping and ransom case against Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) chief Afaq Ahmed. The MQM-H leader has been charged with abetting the May 2001 abduction of complainant Jameel Ahmed Baloch, who was the sub-divisional officer of the now-defunct Karachi Development Authority in Korangi. According to the police, Baloch was called to Baitul Hamza, then the headquarters of the party, and was allegedly abducted by Ahmed, who pressed Baloch to transfer the Baitul Hamza plot to the party. A case was registered at the Korangi police station under Sections 365-A, 109 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997. Judge Akhlaq Ahmed Laarak reserved his verdict until November 25 after both sides of the case completed their arguments.
