Economical solution: Sustainable cotton production stressed

Cotton is considered as one of the major crops for foreign exchange

ISLAMABAD: Sustainable Cotton Production in Pakistan’s Cotton Ginning SMEs (SPRING) Project Coordinator Masood Khan said that there was a dire need to produce better cotton in the country. He said this while speaking to a group of journalists during a visit to World Wide Fund Pakistan’s Sustainable Agriculture Programme (SAP) in Bahawalpur. For foreign exchange, he said, it is also considered as one of the major crops in the country. The media team visited the cotton fields where Nawabuddin, the project coordinator for Pakistan Sustainable Cotton Initiative (PSCI) briefed them about the trainings given to cotton picker women and village women in order to create awareness about child labour, health and safety along with promoting education and precautionary measures regarding hazards on the farm. Environmental journalists visited two ginning factories where they were briefed by Muhammad Abdullah, a ginning specialist from Spring, WWF.
