The tragic incident was reported late Sunday night when some passers-by heard the groans of 55-year-old Muhammad Naeem – who was lying in a field – and shifted him to the emergency ward of Nishtar Hospital.
According to the injured man – 80% of whose body is burnt, some students of Qasim Pur Technical College used to demand free tea from him and said it was their right. He said when he informed the college administration about the matter, he began receiving death threats.
Naeem claimed that five students of the college came to his tea shop and forced him to come along with them for dinner. On the way, the students took him to a field and tied him up.
According to Naeem, the students first beat him and then poured petrol over him and set him on fire. He said all of the students escaped as he cried for help.
A physician at the hospital, Dr Pervez Haider, told The Express Tribune that they were trying to save the tea seller. “We have now shifted him to the intensive care unit of the burns unit,” he said, adding that chances of his survival were, however, bleak.
After lodging an FIR, police officials arrested three students during raids. The students have accepted their crime. Two students are still at large but police officials are hopeful of arresting them within the next 24 hours. Students – Moeen and Zeeshan – confessed that they burnt Naeem.

Should be tried for attempted murder.
Frustrated Nation!!!!!
@Mirza:
Read more history my friend!
You are claiming exactly the opposite....this is the culture of gulluism & thugs which represents our ruling class....
Reminds me when Mariam Nawaz got a poor bakery guy beaten up by her gaurds when they refused to open before time...
Glad the police was able to arrest three of the criminals. Hope the judiciary and government will now play their role in punishing these filthy creatures with what they deserve. Praying for the victim, May Allah be with Him and his family. May Allah protect us against all evil and harm. Ameen.
P.s. unless I am missing something I don't know how PTI or the west is to blamed for this incident in particular. We don't need to politicize everything and make pointless arguments. We need to realize that poor law and order and lack of moral values have led the poor and the rich immoral goons to think they can do anything and get away with it. Not unless we change ourselves and our thinking and stop playing the blame game can we hope to see a positive change in our society.
This is expected in a land where the law enforcing agencies are politicised and corrupt......and the legal system is inept and corrupt.
@Mirza: These young students should not be arrested because they represent Naya Pakistan and they should be above the law. The tea stall man had billions of rupees and he is corrupt because he is not with PTI or Imran Khan so he deserves what he gets but the brutes who attack people are heros in this Naya Pakistan of PTI. Shame.
The young boys of the land of the pure have actually practiced a lesson they picked up from the seniors. They know in a country where a mob can burn to death a couple in the name of blasphemy, killing a poor man for refusing to offer tea would not be even reported.
The overriding sense of entitlement of those students resulted in what I am sure they will see as 'teaching him a lesson'. It needs to be seen for what it is - attempted murder. What was going on in the minds of those your men that made them think that it was okay to lure a man to a field, tie him up, set him on fire, and leave him for dead?? This type of moral corruption is running rampant and needs to be addressed lest the society fall further into decay.
Students and lawyers think they can get by with any crime. Those who break the law must be handled with an iron hand.
Nothing new for Pakistan.Mob violence and violence in general is becoming a daily practice. These students were not of a madrassa.
This is outrageous!
These college students should be forced to pay compensation to the man and they burned and his family after which they should be quickly executed.
The college that gave these boys admission ought to have their rating with HEC revoked. Clearly they have no prerequisite requirements for admission and nobody should hire graduates from there
May Allah Almighty help the tea-stall hawker fully recover from his abominable experience. Ameen. This is pre-meditated cold blooded MURDER. it is also, shocking and arrogant behavior of students from the Qasim Pur Technical College. "Justice delayed, is justice denied." Salams
Surprised they didn't abuse blasphemy law
I thought they only liked burning Christians.
This is a conspiracy of the West against our young and brave students. In our new Pakistan where some revolutionary leaders are very popular citizens of the land of pure are determined to teach non compliant elements a real lesson. Taking over PIA plane, attacking elderly leaders when they were going to a funeral, attacking all govt institutions, trashing the reputation of all judges and officials, beating the police to name a few. We are living in the land of pure and new Pakistan.
