Anti-encroachment drive: Campaign under way in Mirpur

Officials say authorities will take land of the irrigation department back from illegal occupation of ‘land mafia'

MIRPUR: Authorities have announced to start a campaign against encroachments in Mirpur district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). Officials say in the first leg of the drive, authorities will take the land of irrigation department back from illegal occupation of the ‘land mafia’. A meeting of the divisional authorities also decided to remove all encroachments at either side of the canals passing through Chachian, Jatlan and Pindi Saberwaal. The land was meant for greenbelts and roads. Officials said removal of encroachments was necessary before widening the roads along the canals.
