
University of the Punjab (PU) Vice Chancellor Mujahid Kamran said on Thursday China had become the second biggest economy in the world and that importance of Chinese language had increased over the years.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a Chinese Corner and a Children’s Corner at the university.
Chief Librarian Muhammad Hanif, Institute of Languages head Maria Maldonado, Prof Khwaja Zakariya and Examination Controller Shahid Munir also attended the ceremony at the university’s library.
Kamran said Children’s Corner would help promote reading among children. The Chinese Corner will help students learn about China.
Maldonado said Chinese was being taught at the Institute of Languages since 2010. She said the corner would be an asset for students. Hanif said the China Corner and Children Corner had been set up with help from the Chinese government. He said both the corners had 1,000 titles each.
