ISLAMABAD: For the first time, the Sindh police have started to probe land grabbers, who are allegedly involved in the murder of Perveen Rehman of the Orangi Pilot Project (OPP).

“A questionnaire has been sent to the member Board of Revenue Sindh to ascertain the details of katchi abadis (slums), record of land grabbers and land mafia to be involved this case,” said DIG police district West, Karachi, in a progress report of the murder case submitted to the Supreme Court. The report has also given the details of fifth session of Joint Investigation Team (JIT), which was held on October 15, regarding this case. The copy of the report is available with The Express Tribune.

Giving details of the JIT’s meeting, the report says that the representative of Intelligence Bureau (IB) briefed that after the assassination of Perven Rehman, the process of regularisation of Katchi Abadies/Goth has been stopped, hence, beneficiaries of land mafia could be involved in the incident.

Similarly, representative of special branch briefed the JIT that during the efforts, it has emerged that land grabbers affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Naseebullah Kakar and Thorani Afghani did not like Parveen Rehman because she was active against land grabbers, tankers mafia and also supporting NGOs in polio drops campaign.

Meanwhile, the three judge bench of the apex court headed by chief justice Nasirul Mulk resuming the hearing of the murder case on Wednesday directed the Sindh police to arrest all culprits involved in this murder within one month.
